“Dan Friedman, a Dallas Based singer and front man for Dan Friedman and The Publication steps out on his own solo project Blank Horizon. It is a cagey, moody piece of indie rock with syncopated pulses of sound, truly dreamy yet potent guitar sounds and Friedman’s earnest gritty pop vocal sound. The added vocals that may or may not be Friedman pitched down creates a haunting dark avant garde underbelly to the track. I really like this affectation. It within the conflicted sound of the song feels like either a conscience of devils on the shoulder.”

Review of track “Blank Horizon” by American Pancake

“Dallas based artist DAN FRIEDMAN is a singer/songwriter for his band Dan Friedman and The Publication. Riotous and rock n’ roll in its basic undertones, ‘Don’t Bother’ is what you can come to as a conclusion or the basis for the start of a supposition. The delightful tone of indie-disco in the teeth of the shoegazy song (especially during the bridge), Dan cultivates a dense but simple rhythmic trek. Dan’s more indie-rock framing give it another angle of appeal. Who knows. We just enjoyed the single. Whatever genre, there are times when it doesn’t really matter. This is one of those times.”

An interview with The Publication’s frontman Dan Friedman.

I sat down for a virtual interview with Dan Friedman, currently the frontman for a local Dallas known as The Publication. Although still new on the scene, his EP is well worth the short listen and jam-packed with solid rock jams. The EP is titled “Only Stranger” and seamlessly combines a wide breadth of references culminating in a unique sound. I found it to have an interesting transient quality, often playing with the notion of place, a theme I explored in the questions below. Read below to explore some of Dan’s nomadic past and an anecdote, rocking out on a church stage, and his top-secret pop queen.

English translation: Since the end of January, the new DAN FRIEDMAN EP, Only Stranger ‘has been out. We want to heartily recommend the opener ‘Mars’ here. The young songwriter from Dallas is usually frontman of the indie band The Publication. ‘Mars’ has this guitar running, madness, so it has to be in our playlist.

“This Bandcamp album release by Dan Friedman is a deep and introspective collection of songs that bring you into the artist’s mind and his world in essence.  Written by Friedman, and co- produced by Cody Weinberger, it is a clean production, warm, embracing and well done in all technical aspects, as well as driving in measure.”

Indie Pulse Magazine Review

“And these young men can certainly rock and roll. They are definitely in sync with one another…brought friends and fans and played a tight half hour set. This was their premier performance and they did quite nicely. A band to watch…”
